The Times: The former NATO commander investigating the IDF war on Gaza

In the first week of September, ELNET hosted 15 international military experts from the UK, the U.S., France, Canada, Australia and Romania.

In order to provide the delegates with a comprehensive and first-hand understanding of Israel’s security landscape and the IDF’s conduct fighting against terrorists in an urban setting, ELNET also facilitated a visit to the Gaza Strip. The delegation entered via the Kerem Shalom border crossing, toured Rafah and Philadelphi corridor and observed the extensive tunnel network underneath Gaza.

Upon returning to their respective home countries, many military experts wrote about their experience and partook in interviews. Amongst them General Sir John McColl, former Deputy Supreme Allied Commander at NATO, who spoke to The Times Radio about what he witnessed in Gaza: “The operational procedures the IDF have, in terms of the law of armed conflict, are as strong as ours.”

He also said “I went there sceptical” and the IDF are doing “their absolute level best” to minimise casualties.
