ELNET hosted a delegation of international military experts to provide a comprehensive first-hand understanding of Israel’s security landscape. Following the delegates’ visit to Gaza, General Sir John McColl, former deputy NATO commander, reflects on the IDF’s conduct in adherence to the rules of engagement.
ELNET-UK Director Joan Ryan writes about the unintended consequences of the UK government’s recent decision to halt arms sales to Israel. While this move aims to address humanitarian concerns, it not only risks straining the British-Israeli defense and intelligence partnership, but could also embolden adversaries like Iran and send mixed signals about Britain’s stance on Israel’s adherence to international law.
In an unprecedented initiative, ELNET brought a high-level delegation of international military experts to Israel to provide first-hand insights into the country’s security situation following October 7. The delegation engaged with senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and visited key conflict areas, including Gaza, for the first time since the war began.
Despite the heavy costs of Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza and the decline of tourism, Israel’s economy has shown resilience, growing by 2.5% in the first half of the year. As the war nears an end, Israel anticipates an economic boom, driven by the return of reservists, refugees and a surge in immigration.
The threats posed by the cooperation between Russia and the IRI cannot and must not be ignored. Their consequences are real and tens of millions of Israeli and EU citizens have already felt the effects of these real-life implications. In order to tackle this issue, cooperation between the EU and Israel is more crucial than ever.
