Friends of ELNET mourns the loss of Senator Joe Lieberman and offers condolences to the Lieberman family.
Joe Lieberman was, first and foremost, a Jew and an American patriot, and he proudly identified with the Jewish people and the State of Israel.
His faith guided him throughout his career. He was known to all as kind, genuine, devoted, faithful, sincere, and wise. To all who met Senator Joe Lieberman, he seemed to embody all that was good in the world.
Senator Lieberman was a participating member of Friends of ELNET’s Advisory Board. Having a statesman of his magnitude in our corner meant the world to us. Joe Lieberman was a champion of Israel as a homeland of the Jewish people, willing to come to its defense regardless of the challenge.
Senator Lieberman understood the importance of cultivating a coalition of allies in support of Israel, including but not limited to the U.S., in recognition of increasing security threats, and he believed in ELNET’s ability to steward relationships between Israel and Europe. We are forever grateful for his trust and guidance.
With Senator Lieberman’s passing, the United States has lost a great American, whose moral compass could always be trusted to point due north. With his passing, Israel has lost one of its greatest advocates.
We all mourn the passing of this noble statesman. May his memory be for a blessing and inspiration.
