ELNET hosted a conference yesterday on the Abraham Accords and Europe on the occasion of the 2nd anniversary of the Abraham Accords. The conference, titled ‘New Opportunities in a Changing World’ discussed everything from national security to food security.

The audience heard fascinating remarks, including: opening remarks by ELNET’s Forum of Strategic Dialogue (FSD) Chair, Amos Yadlin; former Amb. Jeremy Issacharoff who discussed how the Abraham Accords parties can be a major player regarding energy storage in light of the War in Ukraine and Europe’s energy crisis; Dubai Public Policy Research Centre Director General, Mohammed Baharoon who highlighted shared challenges beyond the Iranian threat; Abraham Accords Peace Institute President Robert Greenway who underscored the importance of European collaboration with Abraham Accords parties; UAE-Israel Business Council’s Dorian Barak who spoke on the power of the business sector in revolutionizing the region; and Volcani International Partnerships’s Danielle Abraham who stressed the immediacy of tackling the global food crisis and how Israeli technology and partnerships can benefit Europe and beyond.

A lively debate ensued on the panel on politics and diplomacy and the much more active stance Europe needs to start to take, with MP Metin H. calling on Europe to be part of defined concrete projects for further supporting peace and prosperity in the region, and MEP Bert-Jan Ruissen saying he’s working hard with other MEPs to establish an Abraham Accords Caucus at the European Parliament.

As part of closing remarks, Deputy Head of EU Mission to Israel, Andrea Pontiroli shared that there are proposals by the European Commission to show support for the Abraham Accords ‘not just in words but in deeds’.

We thank all the incredible speakers and panelists for such a lively and informative day!
