The EU calls for the dismantling of Hamas and the unconditional release of all the hostages

The European Parliament passed a resolution on Thursday 18/01 with a decisive majority (312-131) calling for the dismantling of Hamas and the unconditional release of all the hostages as a prerequisite for a ceasefire.

ELNET, which worked behind the scenes to advocate for a pro-Israel resolution, applauds the European Union’s stance against terrorism and commitment to Israel’s security.

“Sustainable peace cannot exist as long as Hamas and other terrorist groups hijack the Palestinian cause and threaten the existence of Israel, the only democracy in the region,” said MEP Antonio López-Istúriz White from Spain, who introduced the key amendment conditioning a ceasefire on dismantling Hamas and releasing the hostages.

MEP López-Istúriz White is a stalwart ally of the Jewish state. He has partnered with ELNET on programs for lawmakers in Brussels and participated in our delegations to Israel.

The Israeli mission to the EU, led by Ambassador Haim Regev, praised the resolution and said it ‘’reflects that the European Parliament has an understanding of the cause of the war and the means to end it.”
